Reports & Toolkits

A 2025 Mon Valley Report is coming soon!

The Mon Valley is currently experiencing the worst air quality in the region that are affecting the health and well-being of its residents. The purpose of this report is to offer a detailed summary of the issues, their root causes, and possible solutions to encourage better collaboration, so we can establish a healthier and more sustainable future for the Mon Valley community.

This toolkit was made to be a quick resource for people interested or concerned about air-related issues. It will not only explain what air quality is, but how you can check it for yourself and protect yourself from poor air days.

Similar to the air report this Mon Valley Water report was made to inform residents about their water quality. It provides vital information that enables individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being as it relates to the consumption of their water. As a necessity for life we want to ensure they know what's in their water and how they can clean it.

This report was done with the Junior Green Corp and Penn State Extension to evaluate, survey, and address the vacant lot and infrastructure communities like Homewood with Youth-led assessment. This report resulted in a Street and Sidewalk infrastructure report that was shared and utilized by elected officials.

Green Space Projects

During my time at Operation Better Block I worked with our Junior Green Corp group to manage and add improvements to the JGC garden that was started in 2010. These improvements included a Green House, 2 Hoop Houses, a 6ft surrounding fence, a waterline connections, and a small shed. Since my departure more additions and work has been added to the space.

From the concern and vision of Homewood resident and advocate Ms. Zinna Scoot we created, funded, and collaborated with many local organizations to turn this vacant eye-sore to an inviting green space. With its location being the entrance to Homewood and the exit of the nearby busway we wanted a space that was positively representative of the community. After a couple rounds of funding we were able to make additions to the garden like a welcome sign, benches, an ADA accessible Gazebo with a rain barrel, and even got the city to add trash cans to the site.
